Synopsis
The lessons lived quietly at home
Kavita, a passionate former teacher, has put her career on hold to manage her home and care for her sick mother-in-law around the clock. However, when she receives an award from her former school, it leads to an unexpected crisis at home.
Realizing the heavy sacrifices she has been making, her family steps up and works together to build a dedicated workspace at home, so she can teach once again.

Gopal Chowdhury
Gopal Chowdhury is a filmmaker with over two decades of experience across cinema and television in Mumbai, Kolkata and international productions. Since 1999, he has worked as a director, associate director and assistant director across feature films, documentaries, shorts and campaigns. His credits include Chittagong, Sold, JL-50, Tooth Pari and PI Meena, alongside filmmakers including Bedabrata Pain, Jeffrey D. Brown and Pratim D. Gupta. His directorial work includes socially resonant films such as Her Life and Kavita Classes.

Gopal ChowdhuryDirectorKavita Classes was born out of an observation of everyday silences — the quiet sacrifices that often go unnoticed within the rhythm of domestic life. In this film, I wanted to explore how routine can both conceal and reveal the emotional truths of a person’s existence.
As a filmmaker, I have always believed that cinema is not only about spectacle but about empathy. Through Kavita’s story, I sought to highlight the invisible strength of women who balance duty, identity, and unspoken aspirations. The film uses shadows, reflections, and sound as metaphors to evoke the poetry hidden in ordinary moments.
My journey across feature films, television, and documentaries has taught me that the most powerful narratives are often the simplest ones — those that resonate universally yet remain deeply personal. Kavita Classes is my attempt to create such a narrative, one that invites audiences to pause, reflect, and recognize the lessons lived quietly around us every day.

Shobhit Mathur
Shobhit Mathur is a Mumbai-based writer, performance educator and creative professional from Jodhpur, Rajasthan. His background in acting, physical theatre, speech and language, teaching and curriculum design informs a storytelling approach rooted in character and emotional authenticity. As writer, executive producer and associate director of Kavita Classes, he has played a key role in shaping its sensitive exploration of caregiving, family relationships, identity and the unspoken emotions of everyday life.

Shobhit MathurWriterKavita Classes comes from a simple observation: in many homes, women quietly put their dreams on hold to care for their families. Society often praises sacrifice, but people rarely talk about the physical and emotional stress it places on the person making it. Kavita represents many women who balance their love for family with a desire for their own identity.
Through this film, I wanted to show the everyday realities of family life — the guilt of wanting time for yourself, the heavy work of caregiving, and how easily people blame each other during a crisis. Kavita’s story is not about choosing between her home and her passion; it is about finding a way for both to exist together.
At its core, Kavita Classes is about empathy and support. It reminds us that loving your family means valuing each member beyond their work at home, and that true strength comes from supporting one another.

Sudeepta Singh
Sudeepta Singh has worked across television, cinema and theatre since 2006. Her screen credits include Yeh Kahaan Aa Gaye Hum, Ramayan, Chalk n Duster and Mee Raqsam. In 2018, her performances in the short films Seher and My Pot of Gold received Best Actor recognition. She has also appeared in commercial campaigns and in Parakh Theatre’s Chup, and has shared the screen with acclaimed actors including Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah and Girish Karnad.

Anuradha Advani
Anuradha Advani is a Jodhpur-based theatre artist who plays Kavita’s mother-in-law, a central figure in the caregiving narrative of the film. An experienced performer, she brings sensitivity and naturalness to the portrayal of an older person whose growing care needs become an important part of Kavita’s everyday life.
Beyond theatre, Anuradha is closely associated with Anubandh, an old-age home in Jodhpur. Her engagement with older people, and her understanding of their emotional and caregiving needs, lend a particular depth and authenticity to her performance.

Aryan Mathur
Aryan Mathur is a cheerful and confident student of Class 6. He is known for his friendly nature, bright smile, and positive attitude. Aryan is sincere in his studies and enjoys learning new things every day.
He has a strong interest in activities like acting and participating in school events, which help him express his creativity and build confidence. Aryan is also polite, respectful, and well-mannered, making him loved by his teachers and friends.
With his dedication and enthusiasm, Aryan aims to achieve success in both academics and extracurricular activities.

Sujay Datta Ray
Sujay Datta Ray is a graduate of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, and an accomplished film editor based in Kolkata. Over an extensive career, he has edited more than 100 films and received numerous awards and recognitions for his work. His depth of experience and understanding of cinematic rhythm bring a distinctive editorial sensibility to Kavita Classes.

Ganpat Singh Bhati
Ganpat Singh Bhati is a Jodhpur-based filmmaker, cinematographer and editor, trained in filmmaking at the Mumbai Digital Film Academy and founder of Green Studio in Rajasthan. His work spans short films, documentaries and independent productions. His cinematography credits include Rattrap, while he has also worked on Cake and Pitaah. He was a cameraman on the documentary Shuddhi, whose cinematography received recognition at the Cine Paris Film Festival. As Director of Photography for Kavita Classes, he brings a naturalistic visual sensibility to its intimate portrayal of family, caregiving and identity.
Music Director
Saikat Chattopadhyay
Saikat Chattopadhyay is a Kolkata-based composer and lyricist whose work spans film and independent music. He is credited as Music Director for the Malayalam film Katti Nrittam and as lyricist for the Bengali films Mukhosh and Jojo. His work also includes original background music for the short film Au Revoir. For Kavita Classes, his sensitive musical approach complements the film’s intimate exploration of caregiving, family relationships and personal rediscovery.
